Kentucky State Police and the Letcher County Coroner’s office are investigating the death of an inmate on Sunday in the Letcher County Jail.
Jailer Bert Slone said guards found Sharon K. Collins, 43, of Isom unresponsive in her cell at 3:06 p.m. on July 26
She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.
Slone said on the advice of the county attorney, he could not give additional information about the manner of death until Kentucky State Police finish their investigation.
According to court records, Collins had been in jail since July 23, two days after her birthday, when she was arrested on an indictment warrant for possession of a controlled substance first offense, public intoxication (controlled substance), tampering with physical evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
Collins pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2008 for the September 16, 2007 stabbing death of her boyfriend, David B. Hogg, of Bottom Fork. The incident occurred in the Lexington area.
