Works by Dobree Adams on exhibit at Appalshop

Works by weaver and photographer Dobree Adams are on display in the gallery at Appalshop in Whitesburg through Dec. 7. There will be a reception for the artist on Nov. 30 at Appalshop.

Adams’s work focuses on the land and landscape. She participated in the mountaintop removal authors’ tour last year and is exhibiting her weavings and photographs from the tour and subsequent trips to the mountains. The exhibit, containing quotes and poems, includes a series of limited edition broadsides to support the efforts of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth to stop mountaintop removal mining. Her broadside featuring Sam Gilbert of Eolia will be released for sale and exhibited for the first time at Appalshop.

Adams, one of Kentucky’s major contemporary fiber artists, is a recipient of the Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council this year. She is also a founding member of the Kentucky Women Photographers Network and has been featured by Kentucky Educational Television in “Best of Mixed Media” and “Kentucky Life.”
