If you are interested in processing vegetables, fruit, berries, etc. for selling at your farm, registered farmers markets or certified roadside stands, you might want to attend the Home Based Microprocessor Workshop on Tuesday, April 7, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office.
To qualify for selling through the program, growers must live and farm (grow food) in Kentucky and own or lease five acres capable of being used for the cultivation of a garden, orchard, or the raising of fruits or vegetables. Registration is $50 and includes a light lunch.
Once certified, Home Based Microprocessors may sell products such as canned tomatoes and tomato products (such as salsa), pickled fruits and vegetables, pepper or herb jellies, pressure canned vegetables, and low or no sugar jams and jellies.
The extension office is located at 478 Extension Drive, off the Whitesburg Bypass and Stone Avenue. Call the Extension Office at 633-2362 by April 1 to register and plan to arrive by 9 a.m. on April 7 to sign in and receive printed information before the presentation begins.
