Workshop set for farmers




A workshop will be held on Thursday, April 10, at the Letcher County Extension Office in Whitesburg for farmers who grow vegetables, fruits, nuts or herbs and would like to can them to sell from their farm, registered farmers markets, or certified roadside stands.

To qualify, farmers must live and farm in Kentucky and own or lease at least five acres capable of being used for the cultivation of a garden, orchard, or the raising of fruits and vegetables. Registration is $50.

Once certified, Homebased Microprocessors may sell products such as canned tomatoes and tomato products, pickled fruits and vegetables, salsa, pepper or herb jellies, pressurecanned vegetables, and lowor no sugar jams and jellies.

The Extension Office is located at 478 Exåtension Drive off the Whitesburg By-Pass and Stone Avenue. The workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call the Extension Office at 633- 2362 by April 7 to register and plan to arrive by 9 a.m. on April 10 to sign in and receive printed information.
