World War II veteran Coleman Day, 95, dies

Coleman Day, 95, died October 18 at his home.

A son of the late George “Poppy” and Polly Callahan Day of Kingscreek, he was also preceded in death by wife of 71 years, Daisy Frazier Day, and a son, Jerry L. Day.

Mr. Day was baptized into Big Cowan Regular Baptist Church on June 28. He was a World War II veteran and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Surviving are two daughters, Joanne Day Schumake and husband Ron of Fairland, Ind., and Sherry L. Wright and husband Alvin of Big Cowan; a daughter-in-law, Sheryl L. Day; six grandchildren, Rachel Mays and husband Travis, Sherri Rene Day and husband Rocco, Coleman Joel Wright and wife Marci, Jerry L. Day II, Ali Day and husband Caanan, and Whitley Day and wife Jessica; 10 great-grandchildren, Leeha, Megan, Logan, Lexi, Ramsey, Ryder, Gunner, Piper, Phoenix, and Maci Jo; a great-great-grandchild, Olivia Grace; three brothers, Dauphus Wood Day of Cowan, and Jack Day and Donald Wayne Day, both of Indiana; and two sisters, Margaret Stamper and Regina Logan, both of Kingscreek.

Funeral services were held October 21 at Letcher Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Big Cowan Old Regular Baptist Church.
