A Neon area man remained in critical condition in a Tennessee hospital this week where he was being treated for injuries he received in a single-vehicle accident at Mayking.
Lt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department said Archie W. Brown, 37, of 72 Windstar Drive, Whitaker, suffered the life-threatening injuries when he was thrown from a red 1996 Dodge pickup truck he was driving around 9 p.m. on September 2.
Damron said Brown, who was not wear a seat belt, was driving south on US 119 when the truck dropped off the road, traveled across a private driveway and went airborne before crashing into an embankment. Brown was thrown from the passenger’s side of the truck.
Brown was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., where he remains.
Damron said the use of alcohol contributed to the wreck and that high speeds may have been a factor as well. Damron said Brown was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident is still under investigation.
Damron said Brown is listed in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as being wanted on charges of first-degree rape, complicity to first-degree sodomy, complicity to unlawful transaction with a minor and complicity to using a minor under 16 in a sexual performance.
