Writer is sure glad to be back home

Big Cowan

First of all to tell you a little bit about myself, I was born here and moved to Indiana when I was 12 years old. I am the daughter of the late Jasper and Mary Fields of Big Cowan. I recently moved back to my grandmother’s old place. My sister, Kathy Wolfe, had been doing the news but because of illness she asked me to do it.

I would like to thank my husband, James, and son Mike for all their hard work on moving me back home and my family, brother Archie and wife Margaret Fields, my sister Kathy and husband Eddie Wolfe, my niece Juanita Fields and her daughter Emily McIntosh, and Marty Smith. If it hadn’t been for all your hard work it would have taken me months to get moved in and now I have the hard task of unpacking. My son, Mike, is staying with me for a couple of weeks. He is a big help.

I want to thank my Aunt Irene Day and Uncle Eugene for supplying me with lots of green beans. You guys would laugh at this old Hoosier trying to freeze green beans. After living in Indiana for 44 years I am a new beginner at canning or freezing. Also, that little market at the top of the hill at Rite Aid has the best tomatoes. I don’t know who the man is that owns it, but he really has good produce.

It sure feels good to be ‘back home’ again. I miss my grandchildren in Indiana but they are old enough to come and visit me. My husband will be down here when he retires. I miss him.

If any of you are up on Big Cowan, toot your horn or wave when you go past the big yellow house by Trent’s Grocery. I will probably be on the front porch with my little dog. Stop and sit a spell and if anyone has news for me to turn on, stop by and leave it with me. My address is 6691 Highway 931 South. I look forward to seeing and hearing from old friends and keeping up with the news

Until next week, this is the news from Cowan Corner. Thank you!

P.S. A late happy July 22 birthday to Francis Day, and Juanita Fields on July 12.

On July 5 we had our Willie Fields and Susan Maggard Fields family reunion at Kingdom Come State Park. Several were in attendance. They came from Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, North Carolina, and Ohio. We all had lots of good fellowship and food. It’s always good to see new faces at the reunion. My daughter-in-law, Amber, had never been down to the mountains and they came for one day. She loved it and can’t wait to return.

My nephew, Wayne Fields from Cowan, had appendix surgery last week. Wish him a speedy recover.

Everyone have a good week!
