WYMT-TV in Hazard has launched a second television channel to be known as WYMT.2.
The station will be carried by the two main cable companies covering Letcher County — Intermountain and TVS Cable — and will feature programming provided by the “This TV,” a television network that is a joint venture of Tribune Media and Metro-Goldwyn Mayer.
In addition to showing old television programs such as “Sea Hunt” and “ Highway Patrol,” the new channel will carry a number of local sporting contests and will be home to the WYMT Appalachian Wireless Game of the Week.
WYMT Vice President and General Manager Neil Middleton said long-range plans for WYMT.2 include a local 10 p.m. newscast to serve viewers who don’t want to stay awake for WYMT’s “Mountain News at 11.”
“We’re going to have more than 40 local high school and college games from August through April,” said Middleton. “We’ll have great matchups every week from across the region, including our kickoff on August 22 with Prestonsburg at Pikeville.”
According to a WYMT news release, the new channel will be carried on Channel 46 on TVS Cable and on Channel 19 on Intermountain Cable.
