— On Dec. 27, 53 boys and girls gathered at different locations in Letcher and Knott counties to participate in the annual rabbit hunt sponsored by the Little Shepherd Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Each child had an adult chaperone at his or her side, and the groups each also had a member of the chapter as a guide, a conservation officer to teach safety, and a dog handler. After the hunt, the children ate and received gifts at the Shriner’s building in Whitesburg. They then went to the new soccer field at Letcher County Park where they shot clay pigeons and Luke Crase won a drawing for a pump shotgun. The free event will be held again next year and all youth are invited to attend. All youth and their parents are also invited to attend the chapter’s annual banquet on March 7 at Letcher County Central High School.
