A former pastor, youth minister and church bus driver in Letcher County is now a lifetime registered sex offender.
David Scott Halcomb, 43, of 555 Daniels Branch Road, Whitesburg, pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse and intimidating a participant in the legal progress.
While a bus driver for Colson Baptist Church, Halcomb sexually abused a 15-year-old girl seven times during July 1, 2011 through February 6, 2012. Halcomb, who was in a position of authority and special trust, subjected the minor to sexual contact on a church bus and then threatened to hurt her if she told anyone about it.
Letcher Circuit Judge Sam Wright sentenced Halcomb to five years imprisonment to be probated for five years. Halcomb was represented in court by Knott County attorney Terry Jacobs.
As part of the plea deal, Wright ordered Halcomb to pay $3,500 in restitution to the victim. Halcomb is to not have any contact or communication with the victim or her immediate family. Halcomb must remain at least 500 feet away from the victim and her family.
Halcomb must comply with the sex offender registry and the sex offender treatment program.
