The perennial wildflower Trillium is one of the most beautiful blooms of spring. This one burst onto the scene early in April with bright white blooms that took on a pinkish hue near the end of the bloom state. Letcher County photographer Thomas Biggs spotted this one at Fishpond Lake at Payne Gap.

Blooms in the mountains resembled Easter basket

Hello everyone! How is everything in your little corner of the world? The weather here has been beautiful the last week. We did have a little rain. I’ve heard the saying April showers brings May flowers, so we should have some beautiful flowers. I really don’t know how anything can compare to the beauty of the early April and my […]

My classic 1956 Chevy

When I reenlisted at Lackland Field, Texas in November, 1956, I went downtown and bought myself a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air two-door hard top. It was my second car and I did not drive it much. It turned heads every place I drove it. About a year later, Hawaii asked me to come to their base and do some work […]

Pinson, her husband Charlie, and her mother, who live in Pike County, spend a couple of days […]

My 90th birthday party

As I sat in my daughter Karen’s home in Vacaville, Calif. with a house full of my kids, grandkids and friends, I thought of my growing up in Jenkins, and joining the Army Air Corps at 16 years old. I would serve my country for the next 7 years with five tours overseas. After I retired from the military, I […]
