Toyota gives $10,000 grant



Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. has given a grant of $10,000 to Teach For America’s work in Letcher County and several other eastern Kentucky counties. Teach for America recruits, trains and supports college graduates and professionals, who teach for two years in public schools. More than 9,000 Teach For America corps members are teaching in 43 regions across the country.

Lorena Compton succumbs at 82



Lorena L. Compton, 82, of Pikeville, died March 31. Born in Viareggio, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Emilio and Rosa Landi.
