Rally to salute coal miners



A Coal Miners Appreciation Day Rally will be held Saturday, April 9, in Pikeville. The event will start at noon at Shelby Valley High School, when participants will leave in vehicles, ending at the Pikeville Riverfill. Speakers will talk about black lung and jobs.

The Rotary Club of Whitesburg is accepting applications through April 22 for a $1,000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships available to college bound high school seniors and current college students who are residents of Letcher County and working on their first degree. Go Higher Grant helps adult students earn college credit



Adult Kentuckians who are interested in taking college classes may be eligible for a Go Higher Grant from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).
